Magic Mouse Only Clicks nothing else

Brand new Magic Mouse out of the box. Hooked to Bluetooth. Only clicks, no scrolling or swiping features.

M1 Max pro - Sonoma 14.6.

Anyone ever solve this?

I just bought a studio display, Magic Keyboard and magic mouse. I have a 2018 MacBook Air with Sonoma. Will Sequoia ever be compatible with the 2018 MacBook Air (it currently is not) or should I return the Magic Keyboard/Mouse and try something else?

Sorry, but there is very little chance that Apple will "make Sequoia work" with Apple devices that can't fully support running it ... so I wouldn't hold out for this.

... and yes, you should return the mouse. You should have 14 days (from the purchase date) to do so for a full refund.

To try not to make this more confusing, there are actually three generations of the Magic Mouse:

  • The 1st gen was introduced in 2009 and used 2 AA batteries. It works with OS X Leopard 10.5.8 and later.
  • The 2nd gen was introduced in 2015. It was rechargeable only. It works with OS X El Capitan and later.
  • And just recently the "3rd gen" USB-C was introduced in 2024. This is the one that requires macOS Sequoia.

The issue is that this mouse only works properly with macOS Sequoia. The only fix is to upgrade your Mac to that version if you want to use this mouse.

Thank you for the above. I am unable to scroll with a new Magic Mouse and this response was the first useful one I found.
