What can I do if iTunes aborts my backup?

getting new phone. I have never backed up my phone to my current computer which is a new surface. I plug my Iphone 12pro into Windows 11 computer. Itunes recognizes it. Never had backup. Hit to manually backup. It starts the backup... goes into stage 2 for a long while and then just quits.

I unstalled the Itunes app and reinstalled it. Turned on and off the Iphone. Authorized and reauthorized. Rebooted numerous times.

How can I get my phone to backup to my computer. There is 200 gb on phone. My surface has 1.5 terrabytes free.

There are two versions of iTunes, one from the Microsoft Store, the other a traditional setup.exe type installer from apple.com. The two store backup data in different locations, so swapping from one to the other might help with your issue. I'd also advise making an additional backup to iCloud.

If you don't have to give away the old phone before you get the new one see Use Quick Start to transfer data to a new iPhone or iPad - Apple Support which might make the transfer process easier. You should still make a backup.
