Keyboard battery lasts 2 days

I have an older model of the Apple keyboard—the one with replaceable batteries. I've had it for 8 years, and it has worked like a charm. Before, the batteries used to last for a couple of months. However, a couple of weeks ago, it started draining the batteries, and now I have to replace them every 2 days.
