Can I transfer music from my iPad to my new iMac?

My previous iMac crashed pretty badly, and like a dumba**, I hadn't backed it up in a while. I was able to get the unstructured data onto a separate hard drive, and I have been moving songs to my new Apple Music app one at a time. It's a slow, tedious process.

I was wondering if I could simply transfer the portion(s) of my music library on an old iPod back to my new desktop. Right now, I'm terrified of connecting any of the devices to my new desktop, because I don't want them to sync and erase what still remains of my intact music library.
