Airpod connecting to iPhone as 2 separate devices

Starting around last week, i started noticing that with some audio, my airpods would play from the left and right speaker out of sync. When I checked bluetooth, it showed that i had 2 devices conected, but the only thing connected were my airpod 4's. Ive tried restarting both the airpods and my phone, updating my phone, and forgetting the airpods. Nothing is working and it's irking me. I think it's an issue with my phone, because whenever i connect my headphones to my macbook, the echoing doesn't happen with the same exact audio it would happen on my iphone with. Please help!!
