What CD DVD reader writer is compatible with an M1 MacBook Air, using Sequoia 15.1.1?

I have tried two different drives on my M1 Macbook Air. One opened Apple music but wasn't successful for playing or importing music from a CD. I ordered another from Best Buy with 2 cords for which I had to use a hub to connect to the USB C. This drive registers only to open and close the player at the top of the screen, but will not open the music app or play any discs, mpr does it appear on Finder as I would expect.

I'm very frustrated - what do I buy that will actually work on this computer?!
