iCloud drive on Windows on non-OS (primary) internal (SATA) physical drive
Hello! Apologies if this is a similar question to others asked, but I've not been able to find anything similar :/
Issue: When attempting to put iCloud Drive onto (internal SATA) E:\ drive, getting an error:
"
Invalid Folder
Selected path E:\iCloud cannot be used.
Removable drives are not supported. Please choose different folder.
"
However, per iCloud documentation, Set up iCloud Drive on your Windows computer - Apple Support :
"
Change where your files and folders are stored
[...]If you have iCloud for Windows 14 or later, you can choose a different location.
[...]
5.Choose a different disk drive that’s formatted as NTFS, click Select Folder, then click OK.
[...]
"
Versioning:
iCloud: 15.3.138
Windows: 11 Pro for Workstations 24H2 10.0.26100.2605
Drive Info:
DriveLetter MediaType BusType FileSystemType
----------- --------- ------- --------------
C SSD NVMe NTFS
E SSD SATA NTFS
F SSD USB NTFS
D SSD SATA NTFS
As seen above, my E drive is a SATA connected drive, formatted NTFS
So, my question(s) is/are:
is this errata in documentation and iCloud drive is required to be on the same drive as Windows is installed on?
or
is this a defect in the iCloud software improperly recognizing an internal SATA connected drive as a removable drive
or
is there something else that I've not understood entirely and this whole thing is a Layer-8 (user) problem?
Tanks in advance for any help / advice and happy 2025!
Windows, Windows 11 (26100)
