Beats Solo 3 suddenly sounds bad only when using audio

I have had my beats for a few years. Suddenly when using them they sound tinny and poor quality when listening to anything. After pausing you can hear a faint whistling or something for about three seconds then it turns off quiet. I thought it might be faulty noise cancellation but that’s not on these I don’t think. Wondering if this is mechanical or software fix. Just figured it might be fix easily if it turns off the whistling somehow
