AirPod case prioritizing one airpod

I’ve had my AirPods 3 for nearly 2 years, and recently the case has been charging the right AirPod to over 80% before charging the left AirPod. I also have to remove the right AirPod (when it’s reached 80%) to charge to left AirPod. Why can’t they just charge both equally like they used to? I haven’t been using them any differently, I always have both AirPods in my ears when using.
