I would assume as much until proven wrong, when I began leasing a car with carplay I just went to a supermarket and got the generic usb-a->lightning cable and it works fine
of cause if the cable you talk about does not have any wires connected to the connector apart from the charging pins, then it would not work.
I was referring to the cable as per the link below.
