I cmd-c copy some text from a webpage (in Brave browser) and cmd-v paste it into TextEdit. I then copy it from there and paste it into a cell in Numbers v14.3 (7042.0.76).
If I try to copy the text from the webpage to Numbers directly, it doesn't work.
What is going on?

Webpages come in many different forms. Some are friendly to copy-paste. Some not so much. Have you tried copy-paste from Safari?
If that doesn't work either then at least you have found a solution: paste into TextEdit, and from there into Numbers.

A quick try here worked as expected, so there must be something specific with the data you're trying to copy.
I just used this discussion thread as an example, and the text pasted in as expected - even retaining text formatting.
Without knowing your use case, it's hard to be more specific.
