I Need Help With An Inventory Formula…

Hi,

I am trying to figure out a formula that will calculate how much of a food item I need for 72 days.

The formula that I have is not giving me the amounts for 72 days.

Can someone help me?

i have attached a screenshot with the formula so far and the data for pie plates.

Thank you,

Mary

Hi Mary,

An interesting question!

I am trying to understand Cases and Items. Perhaps you need a column for the number of items in a case (pack).

A pie plate lasts for 5 days. What does that mean? Or should it be 5 pie plates per day? Are these disposable plates?

Also, I don't understand why your formula includes weeks (Column D).

Stock on hand should be included as that will reduce the need to buy.

More information, such as your overall aim, may lead to a solution.

Ian.

I'm kind of with YellowBox here... not quite understanding the relationship between the different values.

For example, at face value, you say that 'an item' of pie plates lasts 5 days, and that you need 73 'items' for the 73-day period. Extrapolating that out, if a case of pie places contains 6 plates, then you need 73 / 6 cases, no? That equates to just over 12 cases.

But then, if a pie plate lasts 5 days, you need 73 days / 5 (how long an item lasts) pie plates, or about 15 pie plates, total, or 3 cases of 6 (rounding up)

But then your function is also dividing by the 'number of weeks', but it isn't clear how that is relevant to the question if you're measuring in days...

Maybe you can explain what value you expect to get here, and we can work backwards from there.

Hi, thank you for your reply.

I just need to calculate how many items I need to buy for about 2 1/2 months, so just for a short time.

I have about two months to stock upon on these items, beforehand, so that I can figure out what I need to buy, over the next 7 weeks

Column B is how long the item lasts (package/case), per day. Column E is the quantity/size of each item. I would also like to include a countdown column, G, so I can keep track of when I have enough items purchased.
