Music App on iOS 18.2 Randomly Splits Compilation Albums by Track

Compilation albums I've added to Music from CDs appear fine in the desktop app on OS 15.2. But in the app on my phone (iPhone 13, iOS 18.2), they split up into a separate album for every track, not even grouping tracks by the same artist.

This happens every few times I synch my phone, even as the tracks stay properly grouped in my desktop app.

It's really, really (really) frustrating. And I can't believe that this kind of bug gets through quality assurance testing.

I've tried everything I can think of to put them back together (which is just messing with the metadata or checking and the re-checking the compilation box).

Help anyone?
