Airpods Pro noise control settings can't be switched using Siri voice command

When I command Siri to change noise control settings or to turn on noise cancellation on my Airpods Pro, it does not perform the expected action and responds with "Noise cancellation can only be turned on when supported headphones are connected." This is odd because the Airpods Pro obviously supports noise cancellation.
