iPad Activation Lock Removal

My little brother tried to sell his iPad online. Then the "potential buyer" asked if we can sign to his account and check if it works as he is in Russia and he cannot do so. Then, after his manipulation and gaining access to the device remotely, he locked the iPad. Now, we cannot sign in to it. My brother sent a request to remove the activation lock, but the case was rejected. Today, I called the Apple Support in Türkiye. They said that there were only to ways to regain access to the device. First was sending the request, which was rejected in our case. Second was to request password change through email AND phone number that were linked with iPad. Unfortunately, we only know that scammer's email, but not his phone number. So, I was told that it is impossible to remove the activation lock now. I am sad and do not know what to do now. Anyone had the same issue before? If so, could you help us?

P.S. We have all the proofs that show that iPad belongs to us. Even with them, our case was rejected.

Insofar as Apple is concerned, as someone else has associated the iPad with their AppleID, the iPad is no longer yours.

Unless you can prove to Apple's absolute satisfaction and discretion that you are the rightful owner of the iPad (this usually requires that you can produce the original purchase receipt that shows the device serial number), Apple will not release the Activation Lock. Apple will not become involved with disputed ownership - and this is likely to explain the rejection that you have received. The Activation Lock is applied on Apple's back-end security servers and cannot be bypassed; nobody but Apple can help you.

Regrettably, you have been scammed - and have no lost access to, and use of, the iPad. As a point of learning, never allow someone that don't explicitly trust to sign-in to their own AppleID from a device that you own.

I have not seen anything here on this support site other than the original purchase receipt from Apple or Authorized Apple Seller to prove ownership, but good luck!

It is rather easy to print out a receipt that would not prove ownership and also WhatsApp messages between 2 parties may not be sufficient. Just be prepared for this to be a learning lesson to never do that again.

Hello,

Thank you for your response. When my brother requested for activation lock removal, he attached the warranty card (but it doesn't show the series number) and receipt. Still, he was rejected. I don't know what they want. I'm trying to reach out to them again, but by adding additional proofs that we were scammed (the WhatsApp chat and the "personal" data of the scammer that he sent us to get money from us). Do you think this could be helpful?

I was also thinking of going to the States or Türkiye and show them the iPad with its packaging and the documents. However, I don't think this would be better than the methods I tried. I mean, if they can't help online, they may not help in person.
