Why do my AirPods Pro 2nd Gen sound Robotic?

My AirPods are brand new, received for Christmas. When on a phone call they suddenly begin a robotic sound for me and the caller for several seconds. This happens while out walking, not near any other devices. My phone (iphone14] is very close by. How can I fix it or is something else wrong?
