Tips for moving your Outlook email data to an iCloud account in you have an Office365 subscription
Lots of posts on here about archiving Outlook data and just using Apple email services. Here is what I learned today that solved my problem.
- I have an Office365 subscription through my website host, and I had Outlook as the email service.
- I already have an iCloud+ subscription, so I set up a custom email account for the domain I own, and all my business emails now route through the Mail app. Cool.
- Wanted to transfer the Outlook data to iCloud in case I need to get into archived business messages (like from the IRS!) that I may need in the future
- All the instructions I read told me to go to File>Export on the Mac Outlook menu bar. But that option was grayed out.
- More research, no help. Finally, I reverted to hunt and peck...and here's the solution!
- On the Outlook menu bar select "Outlook" and one of the first things listed below is "Legacy Outlook"
- Select that option. It will bring up an "Are you sure you want to do that?" dialogue and click through that.
- Outlook will reopen in a stand-alone version of the software and now the File>Export option will work off the menu bar.
- Give it some time before exporting! It will have to go back and resync all mail, contacts, calendar, notes or whatever you picked to convert.
- Once it is up to date, do File>Export and select where you want the data to live.
- It will be in an OLM file, which you can then import into Mail if you want. Plenty of posts on that so if you need details search for that.
