SGIII, Here is a screenshot of some cells with and some without the vertical lines. I can't remember how these vertical lines were produced, but I would like to know how to turn them off. Does no one know how to generate them? If there is something different about the cells themselves, I don't know what it is.
It's hard to tell from your screenshot. I don't see anything like those lines in Numbers on my machine, hence the question. Is there something "different" about the cells that have the lines in comparison to other cells with comments that don't display the lines? And have you tried the old standby for clearing up unexplainable glitches? – restart your Mac?
SG
SGIII, I have discovered what causes the vertical line.
These boxes with text in them are text boxes. If I select the box itself and add a comment the vertical line appears. However, if I only select text within the box and add a comment, the vertical line does not appear.
Amazing that Apple doesn't mention this anywhere in the Manual.
Perhaps I knew about this some 5 years ago when I originally did the diagram, but at 76 years of age now, I did not remember it.
Thanks very much for your help.
I can verify that this is what happens. The vertical line apparently indicates that the comment applies to the entire text box versus applying to some text within the box.
Why are you using text boxes? Why not put the text in a cell and put a comment on the cell?
In what app?

Sorry, I assumed the information I had to give to ask the question would have been visible to you. The App is Apple Numbers.
Perhaps the lines were drawn as "shapes"? Try clicking one and deleting it.
