Unable to pair Apple Pencil with iPad 10th Gen again

I have an iPad 10th generation and a 1st Gen pencil that were purchased together. they were able to pair for the first year of me having it, and then my pencil accidentally got disconnected from my ipad. i have tried two different adaptors for the pencil, and neither of them work to pair my pencil to my ipad. i have removed the pencil from my list of devices and tried pairing it all over again, but no matter how long i let it charge, it will not pair to my ipad. how do i fix this?
