I am old-school and prefer replaceable components. Macs are no longer really user repairable, so if the drive goes bad on an iMac, you have to buy everything again. At least with the Mini you have a separate display so if that goes bad you just replace the display. Maybe that is something Apple could repair, if your computer is not an old one they will no longer look at but i fine for your use another 3 years, and you don't mind paying Apple's price which is likely going to be a LOT more than if you went shopping for just a new display. Unless you have really tight space and don't like the tiny bit of extra space a Mini might use up, my preference is a Mini.
I had every version of Mac Mini until 2014, after, went for 2013 then 2015 5K iMacs (my spouse and I both have one each).
I really enjoyed the sleek, all-in-one iMac design with 5K display.
Fast forward to 2020, with M1 (24" iMac, Mac Mini and MBA for choice) -- I decided to go for Mac Mini again.
Like Limnos, at least I only needed to invest 5K monitor once. With docking station, I can connect my Mac Mini (few upgrades in between) without wondering what I am going to do with those two perfect, still function, 5K iMacs.
