macOS has problems with external ssd since Monterey

I have a Crucial external ssd. Works fine on any computer with different formatting options, windows, linux and even macOS up to Big Sur. From Monterey to Sequoia, does not work any longer, even in the same computer, same cable, same USB adapter. And this is not the main problem I'm having with macOS.

Then the problem may be related to the SSD issue and the SSD issue is just another symptom.

Run the third party app EtreCheck and post the complete report here so we can examine it for clues.

Thanks for your suggestion. The other problem I had was when I upgraded to Sequoia. The internet connection provided by my ISP was working weirdly bad. I googled a lot and came to the conclusion that the problem was macOS Sequoia and the way it handles the private ip MAC address. So I downgraded to Sonoma and everything was fine again with internet, but not with my ssd. So I kept downgrading macOS all the way back to Big Sur and now everything is working fine. EtreCheck is not showing major issues. I wish I'd known about this app before. Thanks again

I'm not sure how VASTLY you need me to be. In my case << does not work any longer. >> means that whenever I plugged in my ssd while running macOS Sequoia, Sonoma, Ventura and Monterey either it didn't get mounted or it did but got unmounted a few seconds after. It was impossible to use it in any way. Lots of people around the world experienced exactly the same problem. Now, with Big Sur, Linux and Windows I can use it with any kind of problem.

That could have been addressed by changing some macOS settings assuming third party apps were not interfering. However, when someone has multiple issues at the same time, that generally points to an issue with some third party software with the usual culprits being anti-virus software, cleaning/optimizer apps, and third party security software (including firewalls & VPNs)....none of which are needed on a Mac (VPNs may be needed by some for school or work).

Sooner or later you will need to upgrade the OS since Big Sur is becoming outdated where some third party app developers may stop providing updates to their apps.....when they stop providing updates, then those apps will sooner or later will no longer be able to access online resources. Many third party developers are only supporting the three most recent versions of macOS which are currently Ventura, Sonoma, and Sequoia.

I don't use neither Anti-Viruses nor VPNs nor Firewalls. I don't like to install or use "just in case" software. Not even optimizers and cleaners. I made sure I was not having several problems at the same time. Just 2 very separate problems both solved just by downgrading to older macOS versions: to Sonoma for internet problems; to Big sur for external SSD problems. I googled a lot and believe me, there are lots of people experiencing exactly the same problems. I wanted to be sure of the origin of my problems. Thats why I took the time (very much time) in the process of downgrading to older macOS versions. Time consuming task and not amusing at all.

As for future compatibility issues, I think I will be able to stick to old mechanical external disks; they work just fine for my needs. As for internet problems I still can upgrade up till Sonoma. If Apple doesn't solve that, I'll migrate to something else.

Thanks again for your kind response. I hope my experience can be of help to other macOS users.

The reason for those questions, (which I would have asked but HWTech beat me to it) is that they are the cause of untold problems in Macs.

When you read people's unverified complaints, unless you know what else is on their Mac, many of their issues MIGHT be caused by things they added themselves. That is why we ASK.

I now understand better your "VASTLY" need, yet not why an adverb instead of an adjective, neither the capital letters; but my English grammar knowledge is rather limited. My bad. Anyway, I understand your concern and I'm pretty used to filtering out comments by people who didn't even make sure of the problem they were having and the causes. This is not my case and I know there are lots of people knowing what they are complaining about. Software and hardware providers should listen to them. It's not that hard and they charge enough money to be able to provide a good service.

I hope we'll have the technology we deserve. This is not the mid nineties any more. Things have become easier.

I wish our dialogue helps.

vast·ly| ˈvas(t)lē |

adverb

to a very great extent; immensely: business practices differ vastly from country to country | [as submodifier] :  a bunch of talented and vastly experienced players.

all you said was 'does not work'.

does that mean when you go to write a file, you get an error?

does that mean your drive is not available as an Installer destination?

does that mean when you try to write a file, your computer crashes?

does that mean your computer will not start up when the drive is attached?

does that mean your computer disconnects the drive when it sleeps?

does that mean you get errors when you read data, and the computer becomes very slow?

does that mean disk Utility detects the drive, but will not Mount it?

So I said VASTLY more information needed.
