New HDMI-CEC issue impacting volume control?

For the past month or so, my Apple TV 4k remote has intermittently stopped being able to control the volume on my LG G3 tv. Rebooting the Apple TV solves the problem, but is annoying. Was there a software update or a setting change that could have impacted how the HDMI CEC transfer is being made? Again, this is an intermittent problem, but once it occurs it will not resolve until the Apple TV is rebooted.

For information, the Apple TV is in HDMI 3. Control TVs and Receivers is On and Volume Contro, is set to HDMI (TV). Switching to IR could be an option, but shouldn’t have to be and is less than optimal due to placement and layout.

Could this be as simple as a flukey cable? I would appreciate any ideas.
