Ripped CD play on Mac but error when tying to play on iPhone

I ripped some CD's to Music.app. They play just in fine on the MacBook(in Music). I sync'd them to iPhone but when I select a tune to play I get an error that the 'item is not currently available in your regions or country". I've checked they are Apple MPEG-4 audio and no mention of DRM (in Get Info).

I've tried converting one or two from M4A to MP3, ACC and resynced. Neither would sync to the iPhone.

iPhone 13 using IOS 18.2.1. All apps up to date.

Thoughts?
