Where do I find HP printer drivers for macOS Sequoia 15.2?

I've found an update for the HP Printers drivers for Sequoia 15.0, but it doesn't work on 15.2.

Where do I find HP printer drivers for Sequoia 15.2 (precisely the old HP Laserjet 1020 - or 1022) ?

Low-end laser printers are now cheaper, faster, and if networked, may be compatible with Apple's built-in AirPrint which would no longer require vendor driver dependency. If the new printer's technical details indicate it is network-ready, and AirPrint compatible, that would be a wise new purchase.

HP 5.1.1 Printer Software Update - Apple Support

Earlier reports indicate that the use of an HP LaserJet 1022 driver from that package is possible with an HP LaserJet 1020 printer as well. However, the text says Not compatible with macOS v12 and newer, so do not expect a download to work with macOS Sequoia 15 without modifications. If the package will not install, various solutions have been suggested for HP LaserJet P1005 and other models (community search), but the success rate is somewhat unclear.

If a compatible HP driver for macOS 15 cannot be found, or if another software solution is not possible, you may have to look for a workaround.

Linux drivers are available.

If nothing else helps, you may want to investigate whether an inexpensive Linux-based Raspberry Pi print server could make a USB-connected HP LaserJet 1020 or 1022 act as if it were an AirPrint printer, in order to allow network printing from a modern Mac or an iPhone/iPad. Look upon this as an experiment.

Details about how to set up such a Raspberry Pi print server (for an AirPrint-like USB connection to a Kyocera laser printer) can be found in the posts by Techguyuk in Can’t print with iPadOS17 - Apple Community.

Also, Tesserax reported about using a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ for an old HP LaserJet printer (in Can I connect my laser printer to my netw… - Apple Community).

These HP LaserJet 1020 Printer and HP LaserJet 1022 Printer series printers look to be value-focused and feature-limited, which usually also means they’re effectively disposable when the vendor drivers become unavailable.

It wouldn’t surprise me to learn these are GDI / UniDrv printers, which means the printers are entirely dependent on host drivers. All the processing gets off-loaded to the host and host drivers.

When you replace this printer, you will absolutely want a printer with AirPrint support, and probably preferably also with IPP/IPPS support: Which Printer Should I Buy? - Apple Community

Why the focus on AirPrint? AirPrint and the closely-related IPP/IPPS embed the drivers directly into the printer itself, which means no host drivers are needed for common printing operations. AirPrint works both via Wi-Fi and wired Ethernet, depending on the local network configuration.

Check with HP support.

No (~predates) AirPrint support, no IPP/IPPS, and no other common printing protocols.

My previous reply ought to be applicable even in case of a 2605dn.

An HP Color LaserJet 2605 (19.13) is listed in an earlier article (Printer and scanner drivers for Mac) referenced in the HP 5.1.1 Printer Software Update - Apple Support, but the problem is that the installation may be refused unless the package is modified.

An HP Color LaserJet 2605dn Printer (09.11) is also mentioned in https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/supported_devices/index.

AirPrint-like support would require a workaround (such as a Raspberry Pi print server).

Also, the following print languages are mentioned in the specifications:

HP PCL 6, HP PCL 5, HP postscript level 3 emulation

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/product-specs/hp-color-laserjet-2605-printer-series/model/1140731

So you could perhaps try a generic macOS PCL or postscript driver.

Add a printer to your printer list so you can use it on Mac – Apple Support (UK):

Add a network printer by specifying its IP address -> Use -> "You can also try choosing generic postscript or PCL printer software from the pop-up menu depending on your type of printer."
