Why can I not locate my 1 AirPod and its case?

So I have lost my AirPod 4’s that I got but the catch is that I have 1 AirPod with me and I can’t seem to find the other one which is in the case. ‘Find My’ says that they’re with me but it’s probably talking about the singular AirPod that I have with me right now. If anyone knows how I can locate it then it would be much appreciated.
