Finder columns jump back to last/right column

I’m bringing back a topic that has been posted back in 2021, as it still hasn’t been fixed.

This has been happening for me for a while on different MacBooks, and I haven’t come across an elegant workaround.

In column view, when going through files and folders and reaching columns deep enough for the horizontal scroll bar to be active, the window jumps to the right (the last column) and obscures the left column(s). That’s nerve-wracking as I must deselect the last folders or files and reach for the scroll bar (if available) to get to the left column/item or use the arrows on top to toggle all the way back. Widening columns or opening the finder window wider doesn't help.

It’s been fine for years, but the issue occurred after a system update a while ago. It’s counter-intuitive and hampers productivity, which I would assume goes against what Apple stands for, but it still hasn’t been solved for some reason.

It doesn’t make sense, and I can’t get used to it. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

This needs to be fixed!
