CarPlay not working since iOs 18.3

BMW 7 2017 year. Can play stopped working since iOs 18.2.2. IPhone 15pro

Hoped issue to be fixed with 18.3 but still “Connection cannot be established”.

All steps advised were done. Issue is still there.

Steps performed:

  1. Reset iPhone after update
  2. Reset car entertainment set
  3. Car deleted from Bluetooth connections.
  4. New device added with CarPlay option
  5. Connection cannot be established.

Phone was connected after with only Bluetooth connection without issues and is working properly.

Until iOs 18.2.1 CarPlay was working without issues.

Please advice for solution.

UPDATE: My car dealer reset the software to manufacturer settings and Carplay is back on.

In short, Apple's 18.3.1 is creating the problem. This IOS is made for more recent car models. Apple does not perform regression testing to see how a new IOS impacts older models (my model is 2019). It's for us to figure out!

Apple doesn't have the courtesy to let us know ahead of time.

But your previous answer actually helped me. The decided to do everything again but in opposite direction and it worked! Thanks for that!

Here are the steps I did:

Phone (did it 1st this time)

  1. Go to WiFi and delete connection with car
  2. Go to Bluetooth and delete connection with car
  3. Reset phone - Vol Up, Vol Down, Power.

Car (after steps above)

  1. Switch on engine
  2. Reset Central unit - hold Volume button until screen becomes black. Leave button and wait until screen starts working again.
  3. Go to Connections and delete your phone if it is there.
  4. Make new connection for CarPlay with your phone.

Worked this time.

Hey all,

I have been combing through all the fixes on here, reddit etc. did all the updates, resets etc, nothing helped.

However! For me, and it was instant, was turning off my VPN. Now working seamlessly. Perhaps something to look at with VPN’s being much more common.

this was for a 2019 VW.

By Resetting the car entertainment unit, did you switch on the ignition, press and hold the volume button until the entertainment system reset was complete, and then switch off the entertainment unit, switch off the ignition, switch on the ignition, power on the entertainment unit, and pair the iPhone to the BMW Bluetooth?

Does BMW service have a firmware update available for your BMW X7 entertainment center?

Apple also has this Use CarPlay with your iPhone - Apple Support

Yes, I did exactly the same. These were instructions provided by BMW service center. It didn’t work.

I have asked about firmware update and they told me that they do not have such. Mine is up to date. They also answered that Car Play is not so often updated by Apple. Usually phones firmware is updated. It sounds crazy if all cars around the world must have to go to servise and their firmware to be updated with every change of iOs.

I have checked and there are many people with the same issue like me after iOs 18.2.2 which wes not resolved by 18.3.

I’m in Australia. 2021 VW Passat working fine until the 18.3 update. Can connect via Bluetooth but can’t stand the car’s GPS map.

Have gone through a few resets on the phone and infotainment but no success. Will attempt in line with suggestions that worked. 🙏

Thanks in advance.

18.3.2. I turned off Apple Intelligence on all apps that are in Carplay and it fixed the issue for me. Saw this suggestion elsewhere. Look in settings under general then siri. At the bottom choose apps. for each app turn of "learn form this app"

After trying all the other recommendations (reset network settings, restart phone, forget phone in car, forget car in phone, etc, this worked: https://www.macobserver.com/tips/how-to/carplay-not-working-ios-18/

Basically just go into setting/screen play/applications and turn Carplay back on. So annoying that the update turned it off and this was a completely unintuitive fix. Thank you macobserver for your help - I never would have figured this one out.
