Powered USB hub unmounting drives with Sonoma on iMac 2019

usb drives unmount, my apple keyboard unmounts frequently - wired, if I push the power on and off at the hub for that device, or disconnect/reconnect, it comes back, but typically may unmount during a sleep cycle. USB HDD may also unmount while using it too. This hub was trouble free and hdd's were stable with Mojave, same iMac 2019 27inch. My guess is some lack of support for powered hubs by apple? Why?

It is a 10 port Acasis 60w usb 3 hub. Do people have better luck with thunderbolt based hubs with usb ports?
