Hide Alerts not working for my group chat on iPhone

My hide alerts isn’t working for group chat. I’m not sure what update it was or if it’s just a random glitch, but it hides alerts for individual chats. This started happening within the last month. I have an iPhone 14 and it is updated with 18.3 so it would be updated.

I did the iOS 18.3 update yesterday. Hide alerts is broke on any group chat that has a mix of iOS and Android users.

I've been having this same issue for the past few months on group chats that includes Android users. Sometimes "hide alerts" does it's job... I dont get alerts. But most of the time it doesnt.... I still get alerts. It's a bit annoying. Hopefully Apple fixes it soon.

I stumbled on something that seems to correct this. I found a very old post that talked about a separate setting that you can get to from your list of messages, not within the problem group message. If you click on the problem group from that list there is another ‘show alerts/hide alerts’ toggle. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, but mine is currently saying ‘show alerts’ followed by a bell. Then when I go into the message and look at settings there I have ‘hide alerts’ with the slider moved to on. Why these two settings don’t mesh up I have no idea, but I have had two days now where the mute is back to working.

I have the same problem. And it doesn’t matter if you use the hide alert toggle or slide to the left to “hide alert”.

I’ve tried resting my phone and hiding alerts for each person it doesn’t matter. It seems to work randomly on some messages within the chat.

No glitch nor is it an IOS issue, all of my group chats are still muted.

How are you muting the group threads?

I’m having the same issue.

iOS is up-to-date.

Restarted the phone.

Done a complete wipe out reset and synced everything back from iCloud.

Reset network settings.

I have turned off notifications on my other devices. And third party apps.

I have hide alerts toggled on and the bell from the message center when you slide it, I turn it to mute. Sometimes mute seems to un toggle itself on its own.

I have hidden alerts from each individual in the group, separately. There are no people in the group that is not in my contacts.

Synced messages in iCloud.

Toss in left the group chat and started a new one.

my 15 pro max is also brand new because I was having issues with my Bluetooth as well, so Apple replaced my phone after warranty because the issue started pre-warranty ending. (BTW This is my second replacement from apple because of this issue with Bluetooth)

all of this, and I am still receiving alerts.
