New Apple Pencil wont charge

Would this be a second generation Apple Pencil, or an Apple Pencil Pro? Each can only be paired and charged by a compatible iPad.

The USB-C Pencil can be magnetically docked with some models of iPad, but can only be paired and charged using a USB-C cable connected to the host iPad.

There are four versions of the Apple Pencils and dozens of iPad models. It would help if you can, at least, provide us what you actually have so we can assist you towards a potential solution.

... of which only three of the available four Pencil models can magnetically dock with an iPad 🙂

The first generation Pencil won't attach magnetically to an iPad - and for this reason it was intentionally excluded from the information included within my original reply.
