Cannot add Apple Account to Wallet (iOS 18.3

decided to use iphone 16 pro. my 16pro max still has my wallet cards active. i have money on my apple account but phone says cannot add card. (cannot be added to wallet at this time). I called in to apple support and they said they would need to escalate. luckily all other functionality is there (sending gift cards, adding money to account balance, etc.) luckily i hadnt wiped my 16pro max which still has card on it. you can delete an re-add the card. anyone have any ideas? it simply does not want to be added on this unit.

Question: While I can DEF understand and respect simply wanting it to work on general principle …

Why the real concern ???; Having the Account Card in Wallet - while marginally more convenient - gives you no significant added ability to manage or use your balance.

What you can buy with your Apple Gift Card or Apple Account balance - Apple Support

True. I’m on hold with them now. Just don’t understand why it works on one and not the other. I think I might just have them put the monies on a gift card. And leave a little for my monthly services.

Gift cards are risky. If you loose the card … or if the code is compromised … all remaining value is GONE. Forever.

Redeeming onto your Apple Account is by far the safest way to store any gift card value.

You DO understand that an Apple Gift card may ONLY be used at Apple … correct ?

You can’t use it at Amazon or Best Buy - even to buy Apple stuff.

Yea, true. Safer to leave money there. Rep said didn’t know what issue was but was still useable there. Which is fine. And yes. I’m aware can only be used at Apple. Peace!

Good on you too.

You’d be amazed at how many folks seem to feel that they ought to be able to spend their Gift Card anyway / anywhere they see fit. (as if it’s cash)
