Why is my NYT Games/Apple Wallet payment still pending?

I have a New York Times subscription that renews on the 11th of each month through Apple Pay. It is now the 13th, and the payment is still pending. I recently changed the default card on Apple Pay. I haven’t gotten an email receipt. Can someone please help me figure this out? Is this a Capital One issue?

A pending charge shows as soon as the merchant charges the payment method (card). But the merchant still needs to close the batch before the charge finalizes. Some merchants do it daily, however, some wait several days (up to 5 days) to finalize a batch.

Why? Merchants are charged a processing fee by their credit card processor. A small transaction amount is eaten up fees. If the bundle the transactions and submit as a bundle the merchant reduces the fees charged.

Apple does this on iTunes for instance. Image a 25¢ fee and sales fee on a 99¢ charge. The credit card company makes more than the merchant. Thus they bundle small transactions.
