iCloud passwords and keychain sync can not be enabled

I am logged in with my iCloud account. I have enabled 2 factor authentication and disabled filling of passwords via LastPass, while enabling apple passwords. I’ve also enabled filling passwords in safari via apple passwords.

my iPhone has the latest OS 18.3.1.

however I am unable to enable „sync this phone“. It is just permanently disabled.

I have no idea what to try next.

ive had an iPhone and an iCloud account for about 4 years, so maybe there is some old setting? When I login with a browser I can’t find an app for passwords.

So I found the cause of the problem. My company manage their devices with an MDM software and have some restrictions including disabling iCloud Keychain.

it would be great if Apple had a message explaining why the feature couldn’t be activated, it has cost me many hours to figure this out.

here is a screenshot of the relevant restrictions screen.

hopefully someone else will be helped who is having the same problem.

I’ve tried a installing lastpass too but that didn’t solve the problem
