Unauthorized Apple Cash withdrawal from debit account

Our debit account had three $500 cash withdrawals within 3 hours yesterday to an unknown Apple Cash account. This was not initiated by us. Can anyone recommend what to do?

If that debit card was linked to an Apple Cash Card in the Wallet app, tap the Apple Cash card to see if there are transactions showing there. That will tell you if the transactions were authorized by your son and that is done by double clicking the side button followed by verification using FaceID/TouchID or Passcode.

From your original post, it was not apparent that it had been linked to any Apple Cash card and that you just saw the transactions on your bank statement. With this possibly being on your son's device, there may be some information that we are missing.

  • There would be a message with that person in the Messages app where the money transfer occurred. Of course messages can be deleted and it may be possible to recover them if they were not deleted from the Recently Deleted folder.
  • The transactions would also be in the Wallet app for the Apple Cash card as long as the card had not been turned off.

The bank that manages the Apple Cash card is GreenDot Bank and they may be able to offer some assistance in those transactions if you are now unable to find them on the device.
