Unable to create notes without holding down command

I used to be able to create notes on Garageband's piano roll just by clicking down on my trackpad, but as soon as I updated to Sequoia, I'm completely unable to create or delete notes unless I hold down command. It has frustrated me terribly, and I'm wondering if this is a bug, an intended feature, or if there's a toggle I just can't seem to find.
