I have Apple Music on my Apple Mac and also an old iPod 4th gen but don’t know how to move music from Mac to iPod. Have tried but to no avail.

I believe that Apple Music requires iOS 8.4 or later on the iPod. However, the latest version of iOS that a 4th generation iPod Touch can install is iOS 6.1.6, which means that you cannot use Apple Music on that model.
If you look in Settings/General/About>Software Version on the iPod, you can confirm which version of iOS is in use.
