How to upgrade macOS Monterey for Microsoft Office 365 apps?

I cannot install the latest version of the apps in Microsoft office 365 on my macOS Monterey. Microsoft says an upgrade to macOS is required. How do I do this?

MS Office 365:

Incompatibly is the culprit --you need macOS Ventura or after.

  1. Go Here: Upgrade macOS to continue receiving Microsoft 365 and Office for Mac updates - Microsoft Help
  2. Click: Microsoft 365 for Mac tab
  3. As it Reads: "Note that new installs of Microsoft 365 for Mac require macOS Ventura or later."

Your tag line says that you have a MacBook Air running Monterey.

You cannot upgrade past Monterey unless that MacBook Air has a hardware model year of 2018 or later.

  • If it is from 2018 or 2019, you can upgrade to Ventura or Sonoma.
  • If it is from 2020 or later – whether it is a 2020 Intel model or has a M-series chip – you can upgrade to Ventura, Sonoma, or Sequoia (the current version of macOS).

Since you would be paying for Microsoft Office 365 (if you could upgrade to Ventura) anyway, why not pay less for SoftMaker's Office 2024/NX which has clones of Word (TextMaker), Excel (PlanMaker), and Powerpoint (Presentations). Office 2024/NX has a free trial and different payment options for a formally supported application suite. It opens MS Office documents in their native document format with the familiar ribbon bar interface.

Although you will see others suggest the free LibreOffice Suite which has reasonably good MS Office clone work and document compatibility, it will take some learning curve to adapt from MS Office to LibreOffice. To ease that transition, some detailed documentation is available that has been written in LibreOffice Writer.

Either of these application suites will work just fine on macOS Monterey (or later).
