ya those tended to prematurely wear out the cords if you used them... I never did, and to be honest I never even noticed. they had been eliminated....

Seems obsolete or a cost cutting measure in manufacture to reduce the overhead.

The new cords seem to be even more fragile. I would not recommend the old way, the tighter you coil a cord up the faster it will wear out/fail... it was cute yes.

That solution no longer works properly when the cord at the adapter body is removable. Because the power-adapter end does not stay anchored, winding up the cord would pull the connector half way out of its socket.

So that may not be a cost reduction, it may be a "this does not work any more."
