Accidentally Erased Old iPad Pro via Find My

I have been having trouble connecting to my son’s iPhone using Find My and today, tinkering around, I accidentally erased an old iPad Pro I use daily (with wi-fi) thinking I was just removing it from Find My. My iPad Pro when it starts up now says set up New and tries to connect to my wi-fi, and then says Unable to Activate because it wants an update. ??
