Mail is broken after Ventura 13.7.4 crash

The iMac is a 2017, 5K- 27" 32GB memory, 2.07TB available storage.

It crashed and after restarting, Mail insists it has to rebuild. After agreeing, it gets to the very end and then says there's an error. I use 3 email accounts. I've tried turning each off in turn but get the same problem. A terrible time-suck. Can anyone give me a workaround or a solution?
