“Unavailable for sharing” under phone number in settings

I would like to know/understand why my phone says “unavailable for sharing” under my personal phone number.

my phone seems to be working fine - it is the new iPhone 16. But, I don’t understand why it would state unavailable for sharing under my new phone number. Please let me know what this is about.

thanks!

iPhone 16, iOS 18

The "Unavailable for Sharing" message under your personal phone number typically indicates an issue with your iPhone's settings or Apple ID configuration. Here are some possible reasons and steps to resolve it:

1. iMessage and FaceTime Activation:

  • Go to Settings ➡️ Messages ➡️ iMessage and ensure it's toggled on.
  • Under Send & Receive, make sure your phone number is selected and linked to your Apple ID.
  • Similarly, go to Settings ➡️ FaceTime and confirm your phone number is active there.

2. Apple ID Sign-In:

  • Go to Settings ➡️ [Your Name] ➡️ Sign-In & Security.
  • Ensure you're signed in with your Apple ID and that your phone number is verified.

3. Restart Your iPhone:

  • Restarting can resolve temporary glitches. Hold the Side Button and either Volume Button, then slide to power off. Turn it back on after a few seconds.

4. Update iOS:

  • Ensure your iPhone is running the latest iOS version. Go to Settings ➡️ General ➡️ Software Update.

5. Contact Apple Support:

  • If the issue persists, it might be a deeper configuration problem. Apple Support can help verify your account and settings.
