There was a problem connecting to server "SERVER NAME" error keeps appearing

There are many reasons this message may appear and I believe, most may have to do with your apps that open with the login (after you login the message appears). In my case, I had used a Mac Studio to share video files (via ethernet, wifi, and a software app Hazel) with my MacBook Pro. I sold that Mac Studio and don't have possession of it. When I would login with my MBP, it would look for the Mac Studio server. To delete it, under the 'Finder' window, go to 'Go', and down at the bottom is 'Connect to Server'. I deleted it there and that took care of the problem. Hope this helps!!!

The error "There was a problem connecting to server 'SERVER NAME'" usually indicates a network or server issue, requiring you to check your internet connection, server availability, or network settings.

Here's a breakdown of potential causes and solutions:

1. Check Your Internet Connection:

  • Basic Troubleshooting:
  • Restart your modem and router. This simple step can often resolve temporary network glitches.
  • Speed Test:
  • Run a speed test to ensure your internet connection is functioning correctly and at a reasonable speed.
  • Connectivity Issues:
  • If you're using Wi-Fi, try connecting via a wired connection (Ethernet) to rule out Wi-Fi problems.

2. Verify Server Availability:

  • Server Status: Check if the server you're trying to connect to is experiencing downtime or issues. Search for the server's official status page or social media channels for updates.
  • Try Later: If the server is down, try connecting again later after a period of time.

3. Check Network Settings:

  • Firewall:
  • Ensure your firewall isn't blocking the connection to the server. Temporarily disable your firewall (with caution) to see if that resolves the issue, then re-enable with appropriate settings.
  • Proxy Settings:
  • If you're using a proxy server, verify that it's configured correctly and that it's not causing any conflicts.
  • DNS:
  • Flush your DNS cache and reset your IP address to ensure proper name resolution.

4. Specific Software or Application Issues:

  • Application Updates:
  • Ensure the application you're using to connect to the server is up to date. Outdated software can sometimes cause connection problems.
  • Restart Application:
  • Restart the application you're using to connect to the server. This can resolve temporary glitches.
