USB devices disconnect after sleep, have to unplug/replug every single time

This is an old question posed by another but never answered properly by Apple. Problem is that when my MacBook goes to sleep and is subsequently awoken, I have to physically disconnect and reconnect my USBC cable to get the MacBook to re-recognise the connected device. Infuriating.
