Messages: seeing messages from non-apple devices

I have two computers active on my desk - one for work, one personal, both running MacOS Sequoia. In the Messages app, I have a group chat with participants not using Apple devices. I can see the chat properly on my iPhone, and on my work computer, but not on my personal computer. As far as I can see, Messages is set up identically on both computers. Why wouldn't the chat show up in Messages?

Sorry, to be clear:

  • On both my iPhone and my work laptop, I see all chats and group chats, whether the participants are all on apple devices or not.
  • On my personal computer, I see all my Apple-sourced chats, but not the chats with non-apple participants.
  • My iPhone and both computers are signed into my iCloud account

It's strange to me that the two machines behave differently, despite, as far as I can tell, both are set up the same way.

Can you be more specific.

You say you can 'see the chat properly' on the iPhone and the work computer, but you don't say what you actually see on the personal computer? Do the messages appear there at all? They appear, but in some different format?

Do non-group chats work? or is it all messages that are affected?

There are a couple of things to check. First is that message sharing requires iCloud, so the personal computer will need to be logged into the same iCloud/Apple Account as the other devices. Is that the case?

Secondly, on the phone -> Settings -> Messages -> Text Message Forwarding you can nominate which device(s) should also see the messages. Is your personal computer listed here?
