Hold near card reader does not show on iPhone 8

My dads iPhone 8 when the wallet opens and I select a card won’t give me anything that shows it is ready to be used, for example my iPhone shows Hold the reader close or something similar. Please help me. I’m desperate.

iPhone 13, iOS 18

Dusted the old iPhone 7 Plus (glossy black) and the procedure is double click home button and default card is prepared and displays blue > Hold Near Reader < and animation showing iPhone getting larger.

If there are issues it could be the case, or NFC module is failing or failed. Apple can confirm with remote diagnostics.

I select the card that needs to be used, and then nothing appears, like the card is there yes, but there is nothing that says finger print or hold near to the card reader.

As I recall, when I had an iPhone with TouchID, I just held my finger over the Home button as I put it over the terminal. I didn't see anything (or didn't notice it). In fact, I was a bit confused when I bought a phone with FaceID because it feels like more steps to me. Hold near terminal to bring up Card. Hold in front of face. Hold it over the terminal again.

No, I don’t see that. That’s my whole issue. Nothing shows up.

As I noted, I don't think anything like that shows up with Touch ID. It's something that you need for FaceID as a reminder to put the phone back near the reader after you moved it closer to your face.

It's not clear to me from previous posts if you've been able to use ApplePay with this phone.

iPhone 8 is Touch ID. why would Face ID show?

The "Hold Near Reader" is something that shows up on phones with FaceID. I don't believe it shows up on phones with TouchID. It is possible, though, that I'm misrembering.

also it NEEDS to show the hold near to card reader either way,

Why?

please kindly read my post.

I did. Did you read my question asking if you have been able to successfully use Apple Pay with the phone that has TouchID?

I’ve got an old Touch ID phone, I’m going to try. I’ll let everyone know.

Thanks! I don't always trust my memory on details like that. There have been too many phones over the years.

It's also possible that my habit of just putting the phone on the reader with my finger already on the button meant I never saw it. I do miss that about TouchID. I think the FaceID process is much klunkier.

Thanks! So I must have double-clicked it over the reader and so never saw it.
