Macbook Air with iCloud Upload Sync Problems.
REQUEST: I need to learn how to resolve a problem of iCloud sync not working in the upload direction.
PROBLEM: My Macbook Air (M1, 2020) running OS Sequoia 15.3.2 (24D81) is having iCloud Finder files sync issues while connected to a wired Ethernet Internet connection with 114Mb down & 20Mb up. The Macbook sees Finder changes being made in iCloud by other devices but it does not upload changes made on the itself. In fact, any changes it makes to existing files causes the file to become orphaned. The whole time, the bottom of the Finder window says, “2.91 GB available on iCloud, Uploading 3 items (7.0 MB of 7.3MB).
EXAMPLE: I have 2 iMacs in the house on the same wired Ethernet. One is a late 2013 running Catalina and the other is a 2023 running Sonoma. I copy, paste and move files within the iCloud folder on either of the iMac Finders and they update each other within a few seconds. The Macbook updates with them. Even when I “Move to Trash” an item on the iMac iCloud folder, it moves to the trash can on all three computers. When I select “Put Back” on either of the iMacs, the file returns to the original iCloud folder location (including on the Macbook). BUT … if I do ANYTHING with that file on the Macbook, it changes the “Date Modified” causing it to not upload the change, thus becoming an orphaned file.
WORKAROUND: In order to be mobile, I obviously need my files to sync. The changes I made to my Checkbook Pro data file will need to be moved to my iMac via DropBox or AirDrop and put back in the iCloud.
