How to stop 'Safari is using an encrypted connection to www.bbc.co.uk' message popping up?

I get this message - 'Safari is using an encrypted connection to www.bbc.co.uk' - popping up very regularly in Safari.

Can anyone tell me how to stop this happening?

Thanks.

Digital certificates and encrypted websites in Safari on Mac

" A certificate, also known as a “digital certificate” or a “public key certificate,” is a file that helps keep web communications secure.

Certificates are issued by trusted organizations, such as VeriSign, Inc. or RSA Security, Inc. When you visit an encrypted website—for example, to do online banking—Safari checks if the site’s certificate is legitimate. If it’s not, Safari warns you.

An encrypted website and Safari work together to encrypt information you exchange with the site. The key used for the encryption is contained in the site’s security certificate. This protects your sign-in information, credit card numbers, addresses, and other secure data.

If you need to connect to a website that requires a personal certificate, you’re provided with a certificate and instructions for installing it.

After it’s installed, you gain authenticated access to the website automatically. If you’re unable to access it, contact the website administrator. "

Settings you will have to explore on you own as we do not have direct and physical access

Software / Hardware, maybe

To skip the Q&A session, just download the Application Etrecheck directly from the Developer.

It’s a diagnostic tool that doesn’t change your computer at all. It gives you a clear and easy-to-read list of both your hardware and software

You can get it for free or pay for extra features. And don’t worry, the report won’t reveal any personal information.

Once you’re done, just copy and paste the full report using the Additional Text Icon.

You maybe tried to disable 'Show Certificate' per your screenshot..

..and IF you can do that, the annoying popup notifications should

no longer be an issue. Normally those never automatically appear.

These two bits may (or not) allow you to access this issue directly.

This site never showed ALL posts in this discussion; but now Does!

While I never follow topics such as this, I'm curious now!! (Edited)

Encrypted Connection ?

Do not receive such a message when connecting to your suppled link

Encrypted Connections are also sometimes used by Third Party Security Software and or Commercial VPNS

Neither of which are useful and often create more problems than they are worth

Tested while using Sequoia 15.3.2 and Safari Version 18.3.1

No Commercial VPNs, No Third Party Security Software

Until recently, I was using MS Edge and I never saw that message for the BBC site - my home page - or any other.
Seems to be a Safari thing.

" Seems to be a Safari thing. " ?

Guess work with no a real Technical Foundations

Using 1 M2, 1 M3 and 1 M4.

All with Sequoia 15.3.2 and the current Safari and Firefox

Your link www.bbc.co.uk when loaded into Safari or Firefox auto converts to https://www.bbc.com/

Note the domain change from xxx.co.uk to xxx.com

Thanks, I will, but do you have any suggestions about my question, i.e. how can I stop the message popping up regularly? That was/is the topic, not 'Safari is using an encrypted connection'. You took a few words out of context from the topic title.

Thanks again.

That's not the situation, though. It doesn't 'require a personal certificate'. The message I posted above just pops up about once a day, and there are no options. Just a click on 'OK' makes it go away until the next day.

Over many years, I have visited that site - one of the most visited sites on the internet - probably thousands of times on many devices, but it is only since I started using Safari on my new Mac Studio that this issue has arisen. It must be something in my settings.

From MacRumors Forums

Are you using any Safari content-blocker extensions or private browsing features which don't store session history or caches?

And yes these Content Broker extension would show up in the report

FYI >> I do use a Safari Ad Blocker extension and I not use Safari in Privacy Mode

Thanks for that.

I'm not comfortable posting that info here, but I did run the report. There didn't seem to be anything interesting. No reported major errors, a few minor issues (Time Machine not configured, etc.), reports on hardware, software installed, a few high CPU app occurrences, and that's about it.

Edit - no I'm not using any Content Blockers, and I don't I use Private Browsing.

On the Macrumors thread I started - that you linked to - someone has pointed out that if the lock button next to the URL is clicked on, that message comes up. I'm wondering if that might be the answer to this issue.

Never noticed that symbol before.

I'll check to see if I could have clicked on it the next time the message pops up.

Thanks for your help on this.
