Unwanted auto-startup items on Mac Mini.

When my M2 Mac mini (Mac OS 15.3.2) starts up it automatically launches 5-6 items that I never use. It's annoying, but even worse when I go to Apple Menu >> General >> users & groups to correct this issue, there are no startup items listed there at all. Double annoying. Plz HELP.

After they auto-launch I just click the red dot of each, but that only prevented them from blocking my desktop. Since clicking the red dot does not close the application, how do I close the application?

And after closing those 5-6 applications, will they pop up again upon next restart?

You don’t “close” an application, you Quit it from the File menu or Cmd-Q

Applications can create their own startup without using Login Items. They should have a preference setting to disable it, but some do not.

Skype is dead, and might likely have a non-standard startup.

Here are horrible instructions on how to uninstall it (from Microsoft): https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/skype/how-do-i-uninstall-and-reinstall-skype-on-desktop-c4f7f61c-93e7-4abf-a414-cfd1417d57d6

Just to confirm, you looked in Login Items and they are not there?

When they auto open, do you quit them or do you just click the red dot. Clicking the red dot just closes the document window but not the application. The default on macOS is to reopen applications that were open when you shut down or restarted.

The only technical details I can provide are: I use a 2023 M2 Mac Mini running Mac OS 15.3.2. When it starts up it piles up 5-6 items on my screen that I never use. I think these items are all in my Dock. I don't use the Dock bcoz I haven't found any need for it. I only know that most of the items in my Dock I can "quit," some I can "hide" or "remove," but that doesn't prevent them from piling up on my screen the next time I start up.

Please I understand I am 84-years old, I have used only Macs for 33 years, and I have no interest in becoming an IT guru or whiz. I own a Mac bcoz I don't want to attend a 2-week class to learn how to use the Help menu. The way I look at electrical equipment is simple-- Like a toaster -- I plug it in and it toasts my bread. I plug in my Mac and it helps me to study Asian languages, history and culture and help me compile my Chinses textbook called "Introduction To Chinese Writing." If my Mac helps me do all that I'm very happy.

Thanks for reading.

I am not too far behind in the age department and have been within the Apple Eco System for about 20+ Years

The are some Application like Photo, Contacts, Reminder and a few others that when to click the Red Button, Not yellow and not the green ones

The Application closes completely

Others like Skype, Notes, Message, and Mail. will close the Working Window of the application but remind active and functional

Easy to see by looking at the Dock and if a little Black Dot is beneath the icon, it is still active and functional
