Am no expert in this area, yet your post deserves some response.

Wondering which computer or device model, and which installed OS version they are using.

When something is not working as expected,:

✽ updating to the newest compatible operating-system (OS) version can often restore order

(NB: it's wise to back-up data first if updating OS) ie: System Settings > General > Software Updates

✽ For computers / devices already using the latest compatible OS version:

Restarting the device often restores order (deletes temporary files, re-establishes connections, may update recent setting changes etc.) For Apple computers Apple menu > Restart

Restart your iPhone - Apple Support or Restart your iPad - Apple Support

✽ unnecessary third-party (non-Apple) apps like virus checkers, ad-blockers, cleaners, and the like, even VPN can cause issues. If installed try turning them off (or use uninstallers): see if there's any difference.

✽ any necessary third-party apps need to be kept updated in order to remain compatible with the OS.

Could you provide more detail about exactly what you are referring to by "Deaf Signers screen"? Is it Apple SignTime? Is it something in the MacOS Accessibility settings?
