Why is Waze not showing a map on my iPhone while connected to CarPlay?

I drive 200 miles a day and while I have my phone connected to CarPlay, I have Waze removed from the CarPlay screen so I can have it open on my phone and in the window so I don't need to take my eyes off the road. Starting about a week ago, Waze will now only give me turn by turn instructions, no map is available after I select my destination. I checked and made sure Waze was removed from CarPlay, and it is. Whats weird is I get notification for turns from Waze on my CarPlay screen, and if I touch them, it brings up the entire live map on CarPlay.

What can be done about this?
